Yardbird Suite Steve Tayton ..Alto sax Keith Bill ... Piano Fred Barnsley ...Bass Barry Watts ...Drums

Born Coventry, England. Started studying Clarinet at 12 years old, followed by saxophone at 16, and flute at 20. Began playing in jazz clubs at 16 and made his first television appearance [see above b&w photos] at 18, with the Midland All Stars jazz band.

Steve began composing seriously when writing for electric jazz fusion band PZAZZ,[eight tracks are included on the music page, from the 1982 album 'SOFT TOUCH'] with whom he toured Europe. He followed up this success writing for KPM, with his themes being played world-wide. He studied composition and saxophone at Birmingham Conservatoire and plays saxophone clarinet flute and piano.

On stage he has played with, Cilla Black, Level 42, Ruby Turner,Ed Bentley, MOON with Noel Mcalla and was asked by Phil Collins to join Brand X. Also making appearances on Top of the Pops and BBC Jazz Club as part of his career as a session musician in radio television and theatre. On jazz gigs he has performed with among others, Barbara Thompson, Jim Mullen, Liam Noble, Andy Pask , Ivo Neame ,Davide Mantovani, Harry Beckett, Brian Waite, Spike Heatly, Acker Bilk, Humphrey Lyttleton, and has played several times at Ronnie Scott's London, and various jazz festivals.
As an educator, he has taught many pupils to diploma level in both the classical music, and jazz genres.

His commissioned work includes a suite for brass band and jazz trio, 'Dark to Light' performed at Coventry Cathedral and other venues. He received further Arts Council funding to adapt the suite for big band, and to add new music.

Steve's published books for Music Sales, are most notably the Saxmania series, including 'Great Solos', 'Rock Hits', 'The Beatles',1 and 2,'Blues Greats', 'Jazz Classics' and 'Big Band'. Other books written by him are 'Stan Getz Sax Solos'[transcriptions of ten of his solos],'Absolute Beginners Saxophone', 'The Doors for Saxophone', and editing 'The Joy of Flute', and '101 Solos'.

Currently Steve is living in France, working and fronting his own quartet of young talented musicians; Charles Bordais piano, Thierry Berlatier bass and Sylvain Gallienne drums,- performing his original compositions along with the standard jazz repertoire, at clubs concerts and jazz festivals.
